The Sacramento Kings are breaking an NBA record.

The team now holds the record for the longest streak of not making it into the playoffs.

The Kings lost to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, knocking the Kings out of the playoff contention and setting a new NBA record for failing to make the playoffs for 16 straight years. The Kings last playoff appearance was in 2006, which was their final season led by hall of fame coach Rick Adelman. “I will say we have to be a better home team,"  interim Kings coach Alvin Gentry said. "That’s one of the things you have to establish first and I’ve said this all along. You have to be a good team at home and establish a home court advantage, and then you’ve got to find a way to go on the road and play well, as we did last week. I think everybody here wants that. I think everybody here is on the same program as far as no one wants to miss the playoffs for 16 straight years.”

The Kings had the opportunity to make a run in a looser Western Conference this year with an expanded postseason format featuring a play-in tournament for ny teams that finished seventh through 10th in each conference - however, season injuries and low scoring home games have been a major factor in keeping the Sacramento Kings at the lower end of the standings.
