University of California system may add a new admissions requirement, something they haven’t done in 20-years.
However, opponents believe the "ethnic studies" curriculum being considered encourages bias against Jews and is politically motivated. The initial ethnic studies curriculum was widely rejected by Governor Newsom, the State Board of Education, as well as all Jewish Communal organizations along with the state's Jewish legislative caucus. There's currently also a petition signed by more than two-thousand UC stakeholders and supporters urging the Academic Counsel to rejection the new proposal for an ethnic studies admission requirement.
