Primary Election - What Voters Need To Know Before And After Polls Close

June 7th, 2022 marks California's Primary Election Day. Some key races are taking place locally and statewide, even a few making waves on the national platform. Here is a guide for voting results and details on how to cast a ballot up until the polls close Tuesday night. Election day has vote centers open up and down the state until 8 p.m. The top offices are not really in question today. Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta and others are expected to easily make it to the November runoff. California's top-two primary system means even if one candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote today, they would still have to face today's second place finisher in November. One exception is the special election race in Assembly District 80, the San Diego area seat vacated by Lorena Gonzalez when she left to become leader of the California Labor Federation.
