More Details Are Released On How CA Inflation Checks Will Be Distributed

California is set to send out inflation relief checks as a part of what Governor Gavin Newsom is calling a new "middle class tax rebate". Newsom and Democratic leaders agreed on a $17 billion relief package that includes $9.5 billion in inflation relief checks in the form of direct payments. More than 23 million California residents can expect direct payments, but how much will depend on your household income. Below is a breakdown of the different tiers of the payment amounts based on previous tax filings. Additional payments could also go out to filers with dependents. The highest possible payment goes to couples filing jointly with at least one dependent who would receive $700 plus an additional $350, for a total “inflation relief” payment of $1,050. Payments are expected to start going out mid October, even as the gas tax hike is still expected to take effect in the coming days on July 1st.
