SCUSD Officials Say School Year Will Not Be Extended After Strike

In a letter sent to parents, the Sacramento City Unified School District announced it will not add any days to the upcoming school year to recover lost learning time from last year's teacher strike. The decision comes despite facing $47 million in penalties over the missed days and a specific number of instructional days are required by the state to make them up. Due to the strike, students require an additional 16 days, according to the district. Previously, officials said it planned to request a waiver from the California State Board of Education.
