- A federal judge has struck down California’s 34-year-old ban on semiautomatic guns that the state classifies as “assault weapons." The court ruled the weapons pose little danger to the public, are useful for self-defense and are covered by the Supreme Court’s standards for the Constitutional right to bear arms. - This weekend, Sacramento will be home to the 2023 Ironman Race, an intense swim, run and bike triathanlon. The course features a 2.4 mile swim in the American River, then a 112 mile bike ride, concluding with a full marathon at 26.1 mile run, all of which will be taking place across Sacramento landmarks, ending at the state capitol. - Sacramento city leaders have dipped into the city's general fund to pay off the construction bill for the Golden 1 Center. This is because of a bond measure that is in place that was agreed upon when the new arena was proposed. City leaders promised they would use money from parking revenue to pay the bills, but now parking revenue is lower than projected, forcing them to take more than $5 million from the general fund to pay off construction bonds.
