Folsom Prison Weekend Riot Under Investigation

Officials at Folsom State Prison are investigating a riot that broke out on Sunday.  Prison officials say "the riot was quelled within minutes and no staff members were injured."  They do add that  one inmate was transported to a hospital outside the prison.

The riot began just after 2:00 p.m. in the main visiting room at Folsom State Prison.  Just under 100 visitors had just left the room and were behind a locked security door where they could not see the riot.  Guards reportedly used chemicals to subdue the inmates who were involved in the riot.  Inmates in the visiting room were evaluated by medical staff.

There were a total of 78 inmates in the visiting room at the time of the incident.  Officials say not all inmates participated in the riot.
