Video: Caltrans Updates Hwy 50 Collapse

Officials say westbound Highway 50 in El Dorado County is "severely" damaged by erosion underneath the roadway. The erosion that closed a portion of the highway near Bridal Veil Falls has led to an even bigger hole as crews worked to repair the damage.

While the westbound lanes remain closed, Caltrans has opened up a lane in each direction on the eastbound side about two miles east of Fresh Pond. Caltrans says the problem likely won't be fixed for a few months.
