Man Stabbed To Death In South Sacramento, Suspect Escapes

Sacramento County Sheriff's detectives are searching for a man who they believe stabbed and killed another man early on Friday morning.  Sheriff's spokesman Tony Turnbull said dispatcher got a call at 5:15 a.m. about a stabbing at or near a home in the 4400 block of 37th Avenue in South Sacramento.

When deputies got to the area they found a 48-year-old victim suffering from apparent stab wounds, according to Turnbull.  The victim was unresponsive, he added, so deputies immediately began life saving measures. Sacramento Metro Fire paramedics later pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The suspect is being described as a 51-year-old Hispanic man, who reportedly quickly got away from the stabbing scene possibly on a bicycle.  Deputies conducted a search nearby for that man, but Turnbull said they were unable to find him.

Detective believe the suspect and victim knew each other, and witnesses said they heard an argument between the two men prior to the stabbing.  It is unclear what the two were arguing about.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone with information relating to the murder to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
