CA Presidential Tax Return Bill In The Works

The bill from Democratic Senators Scott Wiener and Mike McGuire would require Presidential candidates to file their five most recent tax returns with the Secretary of State before their names could be printed on the ballot, and those returns would have to be posted on the Secretary's website.

Though their press conference was focused on Donald Trump and his refusal to share his returns, the Senators say it's not about this President but all candidates they say should share the information with voters.

They believe their bill is Constitutional, so I asked Senator McGuire why we don't also require candidates to prove they meet the Constitutional age, citizenship and residency qualifications.

No one spoke in opposition to the bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted 5-2 to pass it.
