About 20 people carried signs reading "Divest From Megabanks," and "Stop the Dakota Pipeline" marched from the city's Central Park to the downtown offices of Wells Fargo, Bank of America and other large banks this afternoon in hopes of drawing attention to the financial institutions' role in financing fossil fuel projects.
"We're asking people to close their accounts and send a letter to the CEO," says activist Lupita Torres.
Torres says activist concerns go beyond just the Dakota Pipeline project.
"The mega-banks and their history of funding projects that proliferate climate, justice and environmental racism," says Torres.
The group tried to deliver a letter to workers at the Wells Fargo Bank on F Street, but employees locked the doors.
