Placer County Sheriff's Dept Rocked By Internal Arrests

A Northern California sheriff's deputy and two correctional officers are facing charges stemming from an investigation of excessive force on jail inmates.

Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell says authorities arrested Correctional Sgt. Megan Yaws, Deputy Robert Madden and Correctional Officer Jeffrey Villanueva on Wednesday.

Prosecutors have charged Madden and Villanueva with assault under the color of authority and falsification of an incident report. Yaws is facing one count of falsifying police reports.

Bell did not provide details about the charges, but said they followed an investigation of alleged excessive force on inmates at Placer County Jail. He said a supervisor reviewing video footage discovered the conduct. An ensuing investigation led to other incidents.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office did not know whether the three defendants had attorneys. They have been placed on paid administrative leave.
