Firefighters are cleaning up after a 4-alarm fire caused major damage to an apartment building near downtown Stockton this morning.
Flames broke out shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the Mayfair Apartments on North El Dorado Street. When crews arrived, flames and heavy smoke were coming from the third and fourth floors. Stockton Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Doolan said 46 residents were displaced. Two people were taken to a hospital with various injuries not considered life-threatening.
Doolan said fire water damage extends all the way from the top floor to the basement. Fire crews from several other other county agencies were called in to help with coverage across the city. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
