Sac International Summer Travel Tips

The heat is on at Sacramento International Airport, where passenger traffic has increased 5.5-percent over 2016.

Nico Melendez with the Transportation Security Administration has some tips to make travel, whether for business or leisure, as enjoyable as possible.

"It's gonna be a busy time," says Melendez. "Make sure you arrive two hours before your flight. When you get to the checkpoint, have your shoes untied and empty your pockets."

When passengers bring prohibited items, it slows down security lines. Melendez sees all kinds of prohibited items, like guns, knives, saws, blades, hammers, in carry-on bags.

"If you don't know what's prohibited, check us out on social media [@askTSA]," says Melendez. "Shoot us a question and we will get you an answer within 20 minutes."

Passengers should give their luggage a once-over before they bring it to the airport.

And the 4th of July is just around the corner, but remember - no fireworks of any kind are allowed.
