Benefactor Makes Free Adoptions Possible At Placer SPCA

August is "Free Pet Adoption" month at the Placer SPCA.  But this story begins at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento in June of 2016, "One of our other donors saw what was happening and saw all of the animals that were finding great homes," said Leilani Fratis, CEO at the Placer SPCA, "and they said 'ya know what? We want to do this for you too.  When is a good time?'."

There are a lot of dogs available, older dogs and cats and kittens too.

They settled on August, but the reasons are not so story book, "It's getting toward the end of summer time and a lot of things happen during the summer," Fratis said, "a lot of lives change, people move and sometimes moving causes folks to believe that they can't take their companions with them."

The Placer SPCA says there are a lot of dogs available, older dogs and cats and kittens too.  Fratis laughs "Cats can produce a lot of kittens during kitten season."

The fee waiver covers anywhere from $50 to $300.  But the value is closer to a thousand dollars says Fratis "We're going to make sure the animal you adopt is spay or neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and you'll get a certificate for a free health check."
