Volunteers with the American Red Cross Gold Country Chapter are going to be in Texas to help people impacted by Hurricane Harvey, which was listed as a category three hurricane while making landfall on the Gulf Coast Friday afternoon. It was later upgraded to a category four.

Spokesman Stephen Walsh said six volunteers will be in Texas providing a variety of services for which they have have received training. However, another half dozen volunteers are being held back to possibly help with relief efforts which might needed due to a wildfire burning in Oregon right now.
Walsh said that the remaining Sacramento region Red Cross volunteers may head to the Gulf Coast in a matter of days. The situation will be re-evaluated on Sunday morning and decision made on where and when those volunteers will be used.
