Interstate 80 is shut down in both directions in Emeryville after a police chase came to halt.
At least 12 police cruisers have surrounded an SUV, an alleged murder suspect, on Interstate 80, shutting traffic for miles in all directions.
California Highway Patrol Officer says the SUV was pursued by officers with the Richmond Police Department and that highway patrol officers used a spiked mat to pierce the tires of the vehicle.
Witnesses say the male suspect came out of the SUV and pointed a handgun at officers. Dozens of shots were fired, and the suspect was killed.
Officers are urging drivers to avoid the Eastshore Freeway, as there is no estimated time for reopening 80.
