No Strike; Agreement Reached Between Teachers Union and District

The Sacramento City Unified School District and the teachers union have reached an agreement on a new contract that gives teachers up to an 11% raise over a three-year contract and a strike on Wednesday has been averted.

According to Mayor Steinberg, the contract accounts that for every dollar the district and the union can save together, that money will go to further reducing class sizes, increasing the number of counselors, mental health workers, nurses, librarians and other key people.

The school district and the teachers union have agreed to work with Steinberg in a community coalition to go to the ballot in 2020 with an effort to fund arts, music and sports for children.
