Opponents of the state's recently enacted gas tax are now collecting signatures to put the issue to California voters.
Former San Diego Councilman, now talk show host, Carl DeMaio is one of the leaders of the coalition to repeal the tax.
"We're asking people to sign up online," says DeMaio. "To pledge to sign the petition, that way we have a targeted list to send emails to and get actually pen and paper signatures back."
Organizers need to collect more than 585,000 signatures to get their initiative on next November's ballot.
"We're also utilizing direct mail and TV to get folks to sign," says DeMaio. "And because the internet ads we've running have been so effective, we're going to continue those."
Registered voters have until January 10th to return the petition - by mail or at one of the many upcoming signing events organizers will be holding across the state.
