Register Your Mobile Home

A new state program could help mobile home owners with legal registration, waiving certain fees and back taxes.

As many as 4500 mobile home owners just in Placer County alone don't have the legal registration for their homes, according to the California Department of Housing & Community Development.

Natasha Stanford, an analyst with the department, says they've recently launched a limited-time program that will waive many of those outstanding back fees and taxes.

"The purpose of the program is to help people who have acquired a mobile home, but never actually received proper title or registration in their name."

Perhaps most importantly for homeowners, filing for registration with the department means they can apply for fire or flood insurance, or transfer the home's title to a family member when they pass away.
