TSA Travel Tips: Preparing For The Holidays

Some of the busiest travel days of the year are coming up in the next couple of weeks. And new security procedures at the airport could slow you down so we have some holiday travel tips.

Sacramento International Airport kicked off the travel season on Friday morning, highlighting new security measures being used. All food and any electronic items larger than a cell phone must be pulled out and put in a separate bin.

KFBK Travel Guy Mark Hoffman says rush hour is between about 5:45 am and 7:30.

"Allow yourself an extra 20 or 30 minutes," says Hoffman. "Just in case that security line is a little bit longer than you expected."

And remember to allow time for parking.

"The parking lots fill up fast," says Hoffman. "You might be used to parking a certain spot, but you may have to park further away from the terminal and take a shuttle."

And if you're traveling for the first time with children, Mark recommends a dry run to the airport before your trip. Young kids will think it's cool and they won't be so awe struck on the day you actually fly out.
