State Auditor Says Sheriff Scott Jones Broke The Law

Following a dispute between the state auditor and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones over the release of an audit examining his office, a letter calling for the sheriff to be charged with a crime has surfaced.

Representatives of Assemblymember Kevin McCarty say they just received a letter from the auditor's office.  The letter on what appears to be the state auditor's letterhead and with what looks like auditor Elaine Howel's signature calls for Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert to file charges against Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones for a misdemeanor violation of state law.

The letter referencing Jones' posting of a public response via social media to an audit of his department's concealed carry weapons permit process.

Sheriff Jones has not commented, but he has previously called the audit politically motivated, and he tells KFBK he does not believe he has violated any laws.

No comment either from the auditor's office or the Sacramento County DA's office.
