Flu Season Spikes Across California

California public health officials say there have been 27 flu-related deaths statewide for people under the age of 65 so far this season.  The alarming spike in flu activity is happening before what is considered the peak of the influenza season in January and February.

Officials are encouraging all Californians to get vaccinated.  Those considered most at-risk for the flu are children younger than five, people 65-years-old and older, and those with certain medical conditions.

The California Department of Public Health has more information about this season's flu strains and advice for avoiding the virus.
