Neighbors Speak Out About Living Near The East Area Rapist

Neighbors along the normally quiet Canyon Oak Drive in Citrus Heights reacted with shock and surprise to find out they were living amongst a notorious serial killer and rapist.

Area police and FBI are still buzzing around the home of 72-year old Joseph DeAngelo, the accused East Area Rapist, tied to 12 murders and at least 45 sexual assaults.

Citrus Heights resident Beth Walsh called into The Pat Walsh Show last night. 

"It is creepy," says Walsh. "I lived next door to a monster, but I am grateful that I'm still here and my kids are okay. Nothing bad has happened to us." 

Walsh says if there's one bright spot in all of this, many neighbors met for the first time as they congregated outside the police barricade. 

Many swapped stories about the eccentric old man simply known as "Joe," who kept meticulous care of his lawn, but was often heard yelling profanities for no apparent reason.
