Suspected East Area Rapist Appears In Court For First Time

The man suspected of being the infamous Golden State Killer is making his first court appearance in Sacramento.  

Former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo is facing eight counts of murder connected to the Golden State Killer's crime spree in the 1970s and 80s.  

Investigators used new DNA techniques and genealogy websites to focus in on the 72-year-old suspect. 

He entered the courtroom seated in a wheelchair.

DeAngelo's next court date is set for May 14th.
