The Red Cross Donates 100,000 Smoke Detectors

The Red Cross is donating 100,000 smoke detectors to homeowners across the country.

Beginning Saturday, there will be a series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events, called "Sound the Alarm."

Volunteers will install free smoke alarms in apartments, townhomes and houses and help families devise an escape plan in the event of a fire.

The Red Cross says seven people die in home fires every day, and most of those deaths involve homes without working smoke detectors.

The event will take place until May 13th.
