Sacramento State will no longer honor Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn at their awards banquet this week, due to to backlash surrounding the Stephon Clark shooting.
The Sac State College of Business Administration was set to honor alumni Chief Hahn at their banquet tomorrow, but now Hahn will not be present.
The University issued a statement saying it was a joint decision by the Chief and Sac State President Robert S. Nelsen, in an effort to "avoid disrupting the campus" and allow Hahn "to devote his time to important matters following the fatal shooting of Stephon Clark.”
Student backlash erupted on social media after the March shooting.
Several people called for the cancellation of the event until the officers responsible for the shooting were fired. Hahn was going to receive the "Alumnus of the Year" honor.
