The man investigators say is the East Area Rapist and Golden State Killer makes another brief court appearance today.
The difference for this hearing is that Joseph DeAngelo walked into the courtroom jail cell. In the 72-year-old's previous appearances, he was shackled to a wheelchair.
The judge was supposed to hear a news media motion to unseal the search and arrest warrants in the case.
DeAngelo's public defender Diane Howard says she never received the search warrant documents and asked for another delay.
"We have another court date, I think you all know," says Howard. "It will be the hearings on the motions, then we'll see where to go from there."
Deanne Helton, who was family friends with Brian and Katie Maggiore, killed in 1978, says she never imagined she'd see someone arrested for the crimes.
"It was probably one of the reasons why my mom moved out of Rancho Cordova," says Helton. "I never thought there would be closure."
DeAngelo is due back in court May 29th.
