A major sporting event's latest stop in our area is a chance for the host city to show itself off.
Today's men's stage for the Amgen Tour of California bike race: Folsom to Lake Tahoe, 122 miles all uphill, including the finish at Heavenly.
Hosting the start in Folsom is part of the city's strategy to pump up it's economy from one year to the next, says Robert Goss, director of Folsom's Parks and Recreational department.
"We are advertising the city for business retention and business attraction," says Goss. "We get recognized over and over as a great family-friendly city, and that's because of our open space, parks and trails and great schools."
It will be a little different in Sacramento tomorrow for the men's 89-mile final stage when they'll ride over the Tower Bridge and loop around the Capitol a few times, in addition to the big loop around Yolo County. So plan on things being a little busy downtown tomorrow.
