Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Jedi was stabbed while taking down a suspect.
The German Shepherd helped track down Jackie Burke, a parolee and convicted sex offender who was wanted for a domestic violence incident.
Jedi’s handler, Deputy Javier Bustamante, immediately rushed him to a veterinary clinic for treatment of wounds to Jedi’s head and around one of his eyes. Jedi received several stitches to his eyelid and around his eye. He also sustained a scratched cornea and an injury to a third eyelid within his eye.
In the late afternoon on Saturday, Jedi was released from the animal hospital and is currently home resting with his family.
Burke remains in jail without bail for parole violation and felony assault on a police animal.
Jedi will likely return to full duty in approximately two weeks.
