Sacramento Police Release Video Of In-Custody Death

A week after the death of a young Sacramento man in police custody, the family of Brandon Smith is looking for answers. They say an autopsy has already been performed but they have yet to see the body.

Family members say 30-year-old Brandon Smith contacted his parole agent for help finding somewhere to live. A few hours later he was dead in the back of a Sacramento police vehicle after being taken from a detox center.

It's unclear how Smith ended up at he Volunteers of America Detox Center. That's where parole agents contacted Sac PD for transport. Family attorney Justin Ward says Smith was in good health when his mother saw him just a short time before he died.

The family saw video from inside the transport vehicle today. This afternoon, police made that video public as is city policy. Click here to watch all the videos.
