The California Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of fallen officer Kirk Griess who was killed on August 10, 2018. Officer Griess was on a traffic stop behind a Saturn SUV on the right shoulder Westbound I-80, near Manuel Campos Parkway. For still to be determined reasons, a white Chevrolet pickup truck veered towards his location and slammed into Officer Griess and the Saturn. Officer Griess was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Officer Griess paid the ultimate sacrifice and now the community he served is coming together for his family. A memorial fund has been set up in his honor.
Jill Alves, officer relations director of the CAHP Credit Union says the Credit Union is covering all processing fees so that one hundred percent of all donations received can go directly to Officer Griess' wife and three children.
