SMUD Volunteers working to Fund Baseball Diamond in South Sacramento

A group of ambitious volunteers at SMUD are raising money to build a baseball field for the Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento.

Members of SMUD's Building Leadership Talent team are working to raise 100-thousand dollars to build a baseball diamond along south Sacramento's Lemon Hill Avenue.

“This area is really underserved,” explained SMUD’s Rachel Del Rio.  “The kids don’t have access to a lot of intramural or sports after school.”

Volunteers have already raised money through corporate sponsorships, grants and even a Fourth-of-July fireworks booth.  This week they're selling tickets for Saturday's night's Sacramento River Cats game.

“The Boys and Girls Club is set up for the River Cats game tomorrow as the benefitting partner,” Del Rio said.  “The whole night is going to be dedicated to the Boys and Girls Club.
