Police in Citrus Heights want to know what led to an elderly woman's death inside a home.
The woman and an emaciated man were found Thursday during a welfare check. Neighbors say the couple did have caretakers at the home but none were there when officers arrived.
When no one answered the door, police went inside and made the discovery.
Lt. Dave Gutierrez with Citrus Heights police says officers located the dead woman and an elderly man who may have dementia The man was alive but emaciated. He was taken to a hospital.
"We don't have an evidence on scene at this point that says there is a foul play involved," says Lt. Gutierrez.
Neighbors say both people suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Police have not identified the couple and the investigation is ongoing.
