Vanessa Hudgens says she feels fortunate to have dated her former High School Musical co-star Zac Efron.
In a new interview on the Awards Chatter podcast show this week, the actress and singer opened up about her years-long romance with her castmate, whom she met while shooting the 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie.
“It started off really organically. I could not have been more grateful to have that relationship at the time,” the 30-year-old reflected. “It was this massive phenomenon and [all] eyes were on me. And it’s just a really weird foreign thing to go through, and by being in a relationship, it kind of kept me stabilized and grounded, and I had someone to lean on who was going through it as well."
However, Hudgens, who also played the 31-year-old's love interest throughout the film franchise, said things between the couple weren't always great — and recalled a lesser-known dispute she had with Efron on set.
“I remember one time we did have a fight and it was while we were at rehearsals," she explained, "and I remember Kenny Ortega coming around the corner with the most concerned look on his face like, ‘Oh no, is our movie going to fall apart right?’”
While the "Say OK" artist didn't divulge what her conflict with Efron was about, she said "we sorted it all out," reiterating that, "because I was so young, I think that relationship stabilized me.”
The pair's behind-the-scenes relationship lasted from 2005 until 2010. Hudgens has since been dating actor-singer Austin Butler for eight years.
