Britney Spears' Father Files To Expand Conservatorship To Three More States

2016 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals

Britney Spears' father is looking to expand his daughter's conservatorship.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Jamie Spears, who recently became the singer's sole conservator since her previous co-conservator and attorney Andrew Wallet resigned in March, filed paperwork to have Britney's conservatorship placed in Louisiana, Hawaii, and Florida, in addition to his authority in California. Jamie has been the "Break the Ice" musician's conservator since 2008.

The notice of intent denoted in court documents, obtained by ET, reads: "Mr. Spears, in his capacity as Conservator of the Person and Estate, intends to register the Orders appointing Mr. Spears as a Conservator of the Person and Estate, as well as his Letters of Conservatorship, with states outside of California, in accordance with each of the states' required procedures, including without limitation at this time, the following: Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii."

The advancement arrives nearly a month after Britney completed a 30-day program at a mental health facility in late-April. At the time, the #FreeBritney protesters sparked rumors that the "Work" star was being held against her will at the center, though she would come to reject these claims on video. Despite the gossip, ET reports Britney speaks with her father "several times a day" and has the freedom to go wherever she wishes — except to liquor stores — so long as she has a security escort.

Even so, Britney attended a court hearing with her mother, Lynne, earlier this month to ask for "certain freedoms" under her conservatorship, though the judge dismissed her request and ordered she undergo an "expert evaluation." The decision came amid the star's reported ongoing "issues with medical care," as doctors were concerned about concocting the appropriate mix of medications to keep the songstress stable.

An insider told ET her medical condition remains a concern among her team, who "continues to encourage her to get long-term help," however, Britney "seems to be more focused on having the ability to make her own decisions."

Despite wanting "autonomy," the source said Britney's functioning without medication "isn’t an option" and that the performer's "family has been incredibly worried about her and spends as much time as possible with her."
