California Woman Captures Tense Standoff Between Mountain Lion and Coyotes

A California woman woke up to the sounds of a mountain lion and a pair of coyotes having a tense standoff in her backyard.

"Just after 7 a.m. I heard growling and the yipping of coyotes," Monica Hylbert told KGO-TV.

Hylbert pulled out her cellphone and, from the safety of her house, recorded the animals stalking around each other.

"I was pretty calm about it, I didn't feel threatened. I was just intrigued by what was happening. It's obvious the coyotes were trying to protect something," Hylbert explained.

She was filming for about a minute when the mountain lion had enough and pounced toward the coyotes.

"As soon as it started to pounce, that's when I panicked and shut the door. Ended up shaking for about 5 to 10 minutes," Hylbert said.

The animals fought each other before running back into the foothills behind her yard.

Hylbert told the news station that her security camera captured the mountain lion returning to her backyard the next morning.
