Woman Climbs Into Lion Enclosure, Starts To Dance As Lion Stares Her Down

Police in New York City are trying to identify a woman who climbed into the lion enclosure at the Bronx Zoo. The woman started waving at the two lions as a crowd of people gathered to watch and record. The male lion took a few steps towards her as she spread out her arms. The woman made a little dance move before turning around to exit to the enclosure.

“Can you tell her to get back?” a bystander asked. “I told her; she don’t listen to me,” a man responded.

Nobody called 911 or reported the incident to workers at the zoo. Videos of the incident were posted on Instagram, prompting zoo officials to file a complaint for criminal trespass.

"This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death. Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff, and animals safe," the zoo said. "We have a zero tolerance policy on trespass and violation of barriers."

The NYPD is looking into the incident, but would not provide details about their investigation.

According to NBC New York, there is a moat-like barrier between the woman and the lion, which may have prevented the lion from attacking her.

One of the videos appears to be posted by the woman on Instagram.
