Pres and CEO of Visit Sacramento Mike Testa announces The Ironman Triathlon Comes to Sacramento in Oct of 2021.

The economic impact for the city is expected to be upwards of 15 million dollars.

Statement from Visit Sacramento President and CEO Mike Testa:

It’s an exciting Friday here at Visit Sacramento. As this update is being sent, our team is standing alongside Mayor Steinberg and IRONMAN to officially announce Sacramento as the host of the new 2021 IRONMAN California Triathlon. We started working with the IRONMAN team in 2019 and we are thrilled with the collaboration.

As you can imagine, this is a huge win for our Visit Sacramento Sports Commission team and for our city. You’ve heard me say before that sports plays a large role in Visit Sacramento’s visitor strategy, and IRONMAN will help us draw thousands of overnight guests from across the country – and around the world. When many of us travel for business or a convention, we travel alone. But an IRONMAN competitor will come in a few days before the race to check out the course, will likely bring along their spouse and family, and will stay in town after the race to recover. All told, IRONMAN projects that it could bring $15 million in economic impact to our market when it arrives in October of next year.

.General registration for the inaugural 2021 IRONMAN California triathlon will open in July 2020. The event will offer qualifying slots to the 2022 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
