California Governor Gavin Newsom says the state is now working the the federal government to help one the hardest hit industries in the state and one of the most vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Governor said a partnership with the will Federal Emergency Management Agency will allow his administration to pay for the preparation by restaurants three meals per day, seven days per week to be delivered to seniors forced to stay-at-home during pandemic.
The Governor also announced a new Friendship Line for those who need someone to talk with during the pandemic. That number is 1-888-670-1360.

Earlier this week, Governor Newsom ordered that California hospitals may resume scheduled surgeries. He called it the first significant change to the state's stay-at-home order that has been in place for more than a month. The change covers surgeries that are not emergencies. Newsom said examples include procedures for tumors, heart valves and chronic disease. The order doesn't include cosmetic surgeries, and the Governor added that state officials will be monitoring hospitals closely to make sure they are not overwhelmed.
He also announced that student loan payments will be on hold for the next 90 days without penalties, fees or damaged credit for the students or their parents.
