14 Sacramento Locations Raided In Federal Wiretap Operation

Fourteen locations in the Sacramento area were raided as part of a multi-agency federal wiretap investigation on Tuesday, January 12.

The FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, and local police from the Folsom and Placer County Police departments were all involved in Tuesday's raids, according to CBS13.

A thought to be abandoned building near Greenback Lane and Hazel Avenue was seen surrounded by officers with guns drawn and bystanders could see and smell tear gas coming from the building.

"I was driving by this morning and I saw the SWAT team out there," one bystander Dave Blumgold told FOX40. "My wife had told me earlier today that something is going on."

Law enforcement sources told FOX40 that the multi-agency operation involved multiple locations throughout the Greater Sacramento area.

Officials reported that the series of raids were the result of a federal wiretap operation involving methamphetamine.

In response to the raids, Blumgold said it's a good thing police are doing something to get drugs off the streets.

"That area there has been known for a lot of drugs as far with the transients there," he said.

Arrests were made in connection to the investigation, but how many people were arrested and their identities were not disclosed.
