Sacramento Zoo To Reopen Friday After Regional Stay-At-Home Order Lifted

The Sacramento Zoo is scheduled to reopen on Friday, January 15, after the stay-at-home order for the region has been lifted.

"We look forward to reopening the zoo with beautiful weather this weekend," said Sacramento Zoo Director Jason Jacobs.

Back in December, the zoo was affected by the state-mandated regional stay-at-home orders. The order was triggered when a region dipped below 15% ICU capacity. Businesses and attractions shut down and restaurants were limited to takeout and curbside as the region tried to get its ICU projections back up to 15%.

On Tuesday, January 12, it was announced that the Greater Sacramento Region would be exiting the stay-at-home order after more than a month of expanded restrictions.

Sacramento County returned to the purple tier and a number of businesses can reopen outdoor operations including restaurants, gyms, and places of worship. Museums, zoos, and aquariums can also reopen with limited capacity and safety protocol.

As the zoo reopens, they are requiring that guests wear face masks at all times and maintain a six-foot distance between their group and others.

They will also not be accepting cash during this time. The zoo will be limited to credit card transactions only and tickets must be purchased and reserved in advance online.

Sacramento Zoo officials say they will reopen on Friday with regular hours.
