Hwy 50 Rock Slide Blocks Road To Tahoe, Caltrans Starts Clean Up Process

A rockslide on U.S. Highway 50 is blocking all lanes of traffic at Echo Summit in the Sierra. The rockslide occurred around 5:45 this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. Highway 50 is the major artery leading to South Lake Tahoe. Caltrans is working on opening up Johnson Pass Road as a detour. The roadway near Echo Summit is expected to be closed until at least noon today. Caltrans District 3 is reporting they have started boulder blasting to clear the path.
