Sacramento Gas Prices Are Skyrocketing, Here's Why

Gas prices are quickly rising in Sacramento.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline in the Sacramento area has risen to $4 per gallon, reports the Sacramento Bee.

According to a fuel trend analysis by GasBuddy.com, prices currently range from $3.50 to $4.70 a gallon.

While the national average gas price has risen 10 cents over the past month, California typically has the highest gas prices in the nation.

Prices have risen 17.5 cents in the past month in Sacramento, reports the Sacramento Bee.

While the cyberattack on the Colonial Pipeline has been big news recently, experts don't believe it has impacted California's pricing or supply.

"On May 7, the Colonial Pipeline Company learned it was the victim of a cybersecurity attack. We have since determined that this incident involves ransomware. In response, we proactively took certain systems offline to contain the threat, which has temporarily halted all pipeline operations and affected some of our IT systems," the company announced in a statement.

Both GasBuddy and AAA analysts say California and other West Coast states won't see significant price impacts in response to the attack.

The surges are due to the rebounding economy and an increase in summer travel now that COVID-19 restrictions are coming to an end throughout the country.
