This morning Californians who want to get unemployment benefits must first prove they will actively start looking for a job.
The rule is being reinstated on July 11th, and was originally waived at the start of the pandemic. Anyone applying for unemployment must show proof they are trying to find a job each week. According to ABC7, California has waived its work-search rule since March 2020. California's workforce development boards, which aim to get people placed in jobs, say fewer people have been coming to them seeking work, according to Michael Bernick, research director for the California Workforce Association.
The EDD has provided documentation outlining the new qualifications.
