Frustration Grows In California Over Lack of Changes To Unemployment System

Frustration is growing in California over the lack of changes to the state's unemployment system.

KCRA 3 Investigates found the U.S. Department of Labor has not distributed $9 billion earmarked to upgrade unemployment departments in all 50 states. As of June 15, more than 200,000 claims were more than 21 days old and had not had a payment. More than 900,000 were waiting for certification. EDD refuses to call that 900,000 a "backlog," instead putting the onus on either fraud, abandoned accounts or consumers who have not finished processing their initial claims.

KCRA 3 reached out to the U.S. Department of Labor for this story but has not received a response.
