Fire Watch: Dixie, River Fire Updates

Authorities in Placer and Nevada counties have issued evacuation orders after a fire started at a campground near Colfax. 

As of Thursday morning, the River Fire is 2,400 acres and 0% contained. An estimated 50 structures have been destroyed. The fire started around 2 p.m. Wednesday near Milk Ranch Road. The entire town of Colfax was told to evacuate Wednesday afternoon, along with the Bear River campground, as the fire took off up the river, spreading from Placer County into Nevada County. A reported 50 structures have been destroyed or damaged, Cal Fire said at a Thursday morning briefing, according to KCRA.

The Dixie Fire has destroyed the Gold Rush town of Greenville - fierce winds pushed the Dixie Fire well east of its previous footprint, and flames quickly overtook businesses and homes in Greenville, a Plumas County community of about 1,000 people roughly 150 miles north of the capital..The Dixie Fire has grown to 322,502 acres and remains at 35% contained, now the 6th largest fire in California history.
