Fire Watch: Dixie, River Fire Updates

Four people are missing as the Dixie Fire balloons in Plumas and Butte counties.

The Dixie Fire remained very active overnight with warm temperatures, poor relative humidity recoveries, and strong overnight winds fueling fire behavior. The fire is only 35% contained as of Friday morning. Thursday evening witnesses reported damage in Canyon Dam on the south side of Lake Almanor along Highway 89. The Plumas County Sheriff Todd Johns estimates more than 100 homes were lost in the Greenville area when the town burned on Wednesday.

PG&E officials admit there's a chance blown fuses from its equipment may be the cause of the blaze.

Three people, including a firefighter, have been injured in the River Fire burning in Placer and Nevada counties. More than 5,000 people remain evacuated this morning. More than 70 structures have been destroyed. The fire started around 2 p.m. Wednesday near Milk Ranch Road. The entire town of Colfax was told to evacuate Wednesday afternoon, along with the Bear River campground, as the fire took off up the river, spreading from Placer County into Nevada County.
