Over 114k Acres, 447 Homes Destroyed By Caldor Fire

As of Monday night, the Caldor Fire has burned 114,166 acres and has destroyed 447 homes.

Containment has slowly risen to 9% after remaining at zero for the first week of the fire burning. Cal Fire Director Thom Porter said during a Monday afternoon news conference that the Caldor Fire is now "the No. 1 priority in the nation of fires to get additional and new resources that are becoming available. It is that important." Cal Fire said the blaze is creeping on South Lake Tahoe’s door, but they are hoping it doesn’t burn that far.

The Caldor Fire jumped Highway 50 near Kyburz on Saturday, and a 40-mile stretch of the highway between Sly Park and Myers was closed Friday. Residents who live between Meyers and Twin Bridges are allowed to travel on the highway but must show identification and proof of residency.

Cal Fire said in a Sunday briefing that they do not anticipate reopening Highway 50 in the near future as the fire still poses a threat to those traveling on that road, according to KCRA3.
