Four Univerity of California Campuses Announce Extended Remote Learning

Four University of California schools, including UC Davis, have announced they are extending remote learning to four weeks.

They say they're concerned about the spread of Omicron. Under the new plan. students, staff and faculty would return to campus on January 31st. Also extending remote learning are UC Irvine, Santa Cruz and San Diego. UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman said the campus positivity rate of those tested since Sunday was 13% — lower than the Orange County rate of 25% but still “simply too much disease transmission … to assume safe in-person interactions.”

Sacramento State also recently announced that it will move most of its classes online for the first two weeks of the semester. This extension follows UC Davis recently recording a seven-day COVID-19 test positivity rate of 4.3% between its students and staff.
